Arents Award Recipient for Excellence in Engineering and Business

    Abdallah Yabroudi ’78, G’79

Born in Jerusalem in 1953, Yabroudi is the chief executive officer of Dubai Contracting Company (DCC), which was established in 1962 by his late father Hasan Yabroudi. DCC’s head office is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and it has regional operations in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Yabroudi built his career with DCC working as a site engineer, a project manager, and as deputy managing partner. His unequaled attention to detail, commitment, and quality has enabled DCC to become one of the most respected mid-sized general contractors in the UAE region.

Additionally, Yabroudi serves as the general manager of the Development and Contracting Company in Chile and the Development and Construction Company in Lebanon. Both organizations are real estate development companies.

Yabroudi is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a chapter honor member of Chi Epsilon, as well as a member of Tau Beta Pi. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Haigazian University in Lebanon in 1976, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, cum laude, from the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) in 1978, and a master’s degree in industrial engineering and operations research from ECS in 1979.

A Syracuse University Trustee, Yabroudi has initiated multiple charitable activities and endowment funds, including the Yabroudi Professorship Endowed Fund, the Yabroudi Endowed Scholarship, the Eric Lui Junior Field Trip Fund, the James Mandel Award Fund, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Program Support Fund, the Yabroudi Middle East Centre Fund, and more. He played a role in funding the renovation of Link Hall, specifically the physical space that houses the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In addition, Yabroudi established the James A. Mandel and Samuel P. Clemence Internship Programs, which receive eight Syracuse University civil engineering juniors annually for training at DCC’s operations in Dubai.

Yabroudi also serves as a founding member on the International Leadership Board of the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where he established the Fuad Jubran, MD, Endowment Fund to create the Center for Middle East Medical Education. He also established the Rose Yabroudi Endowment Fund, which is directed to educate female medical students from the Middle East with specialty training.
